In Assets, the digital assets that you create are placed into a structure called the digital asset hierarchy. The digital asset hierarchy allows you to create, load, organize, and manage digital assets. The digital asset hierarchy consists of assets and nodes.
| • | An asset is a document (such as text, image, audio, web page, or multimedia file) that has associated metadata to describe the document. Digital assets have permissions associated with them, such as Access Level, Need to Know, and Restrictions that may grant or prevent access to them. |
| • | A node is a point within the digital asset hierarchy. A node is either a directory node (a folder), or an asset node (a single digital asset and its associated metadata). |
The digital asset hierarchy is organized like a file directory. Directory nodes (folders) can contain any number of folder nodes and asset nodes. An asset node can be likened to a file in a file directory. Asset nodes cannot have any child nodes.
In the Assets page, Directory shows a list of the different levels of folders in the digital asset hierarchy. You can expand or contract the folder levels and select a folder (directory node) to view its contents (child nodes) in the Directory Contents list.
You can arrange the folders and assets in the digital asset hierarchy to make finding the folders you want easier. The Sort field above the Directory list allows you to display the folders and assets in ascending order, either alphabetically by name, or chronologically by the date the folder or asset was added to the hierarchy.
The Asset Filter field above the Directory Contents list can be used to display certain assets, depending on whether they are “published” or available to the public for patron searches, whether they are “staged” to allow them to be hidden from asset search but to be linked from MARC records, or whether they are "hidden" to be unavailable to all patron searches while they are being prepared for public use. Assets that are published and available to patrons display in regular, black font. Assets that are staged or hidden and not available to patrons display in an italic, gray font.
